Here’s How C-DoT and IIT Delhi’s Upcoming Gen-AI Powered Chatbot Can Help in Disaster Situations—What We Know So Far!
The upcoming Gen-AI chatbot will be equipped with natural language processing, text-to-speech, and speech-to-text arrangements.

The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT), the Telecom R&D center of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India, has signed an agreement with the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi (IIT-D) to develop a “Generative AI-Enhanced Chatbot for Customer Support in Disaster Early Warning and Emergency Communication.” 

This initiative by the R&D center will strengthen the disaster preparedness infrastructure of the nation by enabling automated and reliable communication services. It will provide real-time multilingual assistance to disaster managers, first responders, and affected communities by leveraging advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP), Text-to-Speech (TTS), Speech-to-Text (STT), and Image Processing Techniques.

Seamless Coordination 

The upcoming system will seamlessly integrate with 3GPP-compliant emergency communication protocols, enabling efficient crisis coordination. Designed as a fully on-premise solution, it ensures cybersecurity compliance, data privacy, and high availability for mission-critical applications. Additionally, it will be integrated with C-DOT’s Disaster Management System for NDMA, enhancing the platform’s overall capability.

Indigenous Innovation 

Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO of C-DOT, underscored the significance of indigenous innovation in disaster communication technologies, emphasizing the role of AI-powered solutions in addressing India’s diverse and complex emergency response challenges. He reaffirmed C-DOT’s dedication to developing secure, scalable, and India-centric telecom solutions, aligning with the vision of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' in critical communication infrastructure.

The agreement was signed as part of the C-DOT Collaborative Research Program (CCRP) during a ceremony attended by Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO of C-DOT; Ms. Shikha Srivastava, EVP-II, C-DOT; Prof. Brejesh Lall, Principal Investigator from IIT Delhi; and Col. (Dr.) Amit Oberoi from Carnot Research Pvt. Ltd., the implementation partner of IIT Delhi.
