Perplexity, an AI-powered search startup backed by Jeff Bezos and Nvidia, has launched a new shopping hub to enhance its platform as it challenges Google's dominance in search. The hub features product cards that display detailed, visually rich information in response to shopping-related queries. This functionality is supported by integrations with platforms like Shopify, providing access to updated product listings from global businesses that ship to the U.S.

Perplexity’s launch includes a visual search tool called “Snap to Shop,” which allows users to upload photos of items and find similar products. Additionally, the company is rolling out a "merchant program" to enable retailers to share product data directly with the platform. These features debut in the U.S., with expansion to other markets planned at a later date. The move comes as Perplexity seeks to broaden its offerings and compete with OpenAI, which recently introduced search capabilities to ChatGPT.
