The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, in collaboration with the India Cellular & Electronics Association (ICEA), has introduced the TruthTell Hackathon—an innovative challenge designed to develop AI-driven solutions for real-time misinformation detection in live broadcasts. This initiative is part of the Create in India Challenge (CIC) Season 1 under the inaugural World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025.

Addressing the Growing Challenge of Misinformation

In today's digital age, misinformation spreads at an alarming rate, particularly during live broadcasts. Detecting and addressing false narratives in real-time is crucial for broadcasters, journalists, and audiences to maintain the integrity of news and information dissemination. The TruthTell Hackathon aims to bridge this gap by fostering AI-powered tools that can verify facts instantly.

A High-Stakes Challenge with Lucrative Rewards

With a total prize pool of ₹10 lakh, the hackathon is inviting developers, data scientists, and media professionals to devise cutting-edge AI solutions for real-time fact-checking and misinformation detection. The winning teams will not only receive cash prizes but will also gain mentorship opportunities and incubation support from industry experts.

Overwhelming Global Response

Since its announcement, the TruthTell Hackathon has seen a massive influx of over 5,600 registrations from across the globe, with an impressive 36 per cent participation from women, highlighting diverse engagement in technology-driven media solutions.
