The Indian government has taken action regarding reported performance problems affecting iPhones after a recent software update. Pralhad Joshi, Consumer Minister, Government of India, announced that a formal notice has been sent to Apple Inc. This notice, issued by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), requests Apple to provide a detailed explanation concerning the reported technical issues.
User Complaints of Technical Glitches
The action follows a surge of complaints received by the National Consumer Helpline. Numerous iPhone users reported experiencing technical glitches after updating their devices to iOS 18+ (or later). These user grievances prompted the Department of Consumer Affairs to investigate the matter. After reviewing the complaints, the department decided to formally request information from Apple through the CCPA.
Minister's Confirmation through X
Minister Joshi confirmed the issuance of the notice via a post on X (formerly Twitter). He stated that after examining the received grievances regarding performance issues in iPhones following the iOS 18+ software update, the department, through the CCPA, issued a notice to Apple, seeking a response on the matter. This incident represents the latest instance of increased regulatory attention focused on Apple's operations within India. India is a crucial growth market for smartphone manufacturers, including Apple, and this action underscores the government's commitment to consumer protection.
