The Andhra Pradesh government, under Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, has approved infrastructure works worth Rs 24,276 crore for the greenfield capital city of Amaravati. The decision was taken during the 43rd meeting of the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA). Ponguru Narayana, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Government of Andhra Pradesh, stated that the sanctioned amount will fund the construction of trunk roads, layouts, and iconic buildings in Amaravati. He also highlighted that in the previous four CRDA meetings, a total of Rs 45,249 crore was approved for similar developments in the capital.

World-class assembly, High Court buildings planned

The minister announced that a state-of-the-art Assembly building will be constructed on 103 acres of land. The structure will span 11.2 lakh square feet and rise to a towering height of 250 metres. When the Assembly is not in session, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a panoramic view of Amaravati from the top of the building. The High Court building, another key project, will be spread across 42 acres with a built-up area of 20.32 lakh square feet. This eight-storey structure will reach a height of 55 metres and is estimated to cost Rs 1,048 crore. In addition to the Assembly and High Court, a 47-storey Administrative Department building will be constructed, covering 17.03 lakh square feet. Further, five iconic towers, together spanning 68.88 lakh square feet, are planned for Rs 4,688 crore.

Major infrastructure development underway

The government has allocated Rs 9,699 crore for the development of highways and other roads in the region, totalling 579.5 km. Trunk roads alone will cost Rs 7,794 crore. Additionally, Rs 318 crore has been earmarked for sewage treatment plant (STP) works to ensure basic amenities are in place.
