Chief Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel, inaugurated the Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence at GIFT City, calling it a pivotal step in making Gujarat a prominent think tank in the field of AI. The centre was established following an MoU signed in June 2024 between Microsoft and the Science and Technology Department of Gujarat. This partnership aims to enhance AI-driven innovation and development in the state.
Technological Innovation and Training Programs
The AI Center of Excellence will leverage advanced technologies such as machine learning, cognitive services, and chatbot services to execute impactful projects. Pilot initiatives in these domains will soon be implemented, laying the foundation for broader applications across industries.
Additionally, the centre will host training programs to equip individuals with cutting-edge AI skills, fostering a culture of technological literacy and innovation at the grassroots level.
Driving Progress Across Sectors
The centre is designed to provide timely, effective services to citizens while driving innovation in key areas like healthcare, education, and production. It aims to accelerate technological advancement, offering valuable collaboration opportunities to both the government and industries.

The Chief Minister highlighted the rapid execution of the project, attributing its operational status within just seven months to the Prime Minister's commitment to delivering on promises. He referred to the policy of ‘Je Kahevu Te Karvu’ (delivering on promises), which was exemplified by the swift completion of this initiative.
Recognising Innovators and Launching Challenges
In conjunction with the inauguration, the Chief Minister launched an Innovation Challenge to encourage AI and IoT-led solutions. Ten awards were presented to MSMEs and startups for their early adoption of innovative technologies, showcasing their role in driving the state’s technological ecosystem forward.
GIFT City: A Hub of Continuous Innovation
The Chief Minister reaffirmed that GIFT City, India’s first financial technology city, is constantly evolving under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The inauguration of the AI Center of Excellence marks another milestone in its journey toward becoming a global hub for innovation and progress.
