Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited (PSCDCL) has decided to retain control over the ‘Adaptive Traffic Management System’ (ATMS) for an additional five years, overturning its previous plan to transfer the project to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

Under this new arrangement, PMC will pay maintenance fees to PSCDCL as outlined in a formal agreement. The ATMS, implemented by PSCDCL in collaboration with PMC, aims to alleviate Pune’s traffic congestion by synchronizing traffic signals, making it a cornerstone of the city’s smart infrastructure efforts.

This decision will be formally ratified during the upcoming PSCDCL board meeting, as confirmed by PMC Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B. P. Currently, the ATMS remains under the purview of the Smart City initiative.

Pune was among the first cities selected for the Smart City Mission, a flagship initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. Although the mission was initially scheduled to conclude in June 2023, the central government later extended its timeline to March 2025. Following the original deadline, PSCDCL had begun requesting PMC to take over various projects, including the ATMS. However, with the extension, PSCDCL continues to oversee these developments.
