Telangana's Warangal, Karimnagar advance under Smart Cities Mission
Over ₹1,250 crore has been utilized for Warangal and Karimnagar's Smart Cities Mission projects in Telangana, with 72 projects underway.

Tokhan Sahu, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, informed the Rajya Sabha that a combined allocation of ₹1,380.72 crore has been made by the central and state governments for the development of Greater Warangal and Karimnagar under Smart Cities Mission in Telangana. Of this, ₹1,252 crore has already been utilized for various urban development projects in the two cities.

In response to a question raised by Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar, Sahu detailed the progress of the initiative. He revealed that Warangal is currently implementing 51 projects worth ₹512 crores, while Karimnagar is working on 21 projects with a total value of ₹282 crore under the Smart City programme. Both Warangal and Karimnagar were chosen for the Smart Cities Mission in May 2016. Since then, these cities have been focusing on enhancing infrastructure, improving urban services, and promoting sustainable development to align with the objectives of the mission.
