The Government of Karnataka has unveiled plans to develop a Startups, Workspaces, Innovation, Finance, and Technology (SWIFT) City near Sarjapur in Bengaluru. MB Patil, the Minister for Commerce, Industries, and Infrastructure, Government of Karnataka, stated that this new city would significantly enhance Bengaluru’s renowned start-up ecosystem. Envisioned as a major industrial hub, SWIFT City is set to rival key landmarks like International Tech Park Limited (ITPL) and Electronic City. According to MB Patil, “SWIFT City will be a landmark development, reinforcing Karnataka’s position as a leader in technology and innovation. Spanning over 1,000 acres near Sarjapur, it will serve as a major startup hotspot.”
What to expect
SWIFT City is designed to cater to startups, businesses, and professionals with a wide range of facilities:
Prime Location & Connectivity: Spread across 1,000 acres, the city will enjoy proximity to Bengaluru’s IT hubs and excellent connectivity to NH 44 and NH 48.
Plug-and-Play Infrastructure: The development will feature 8 to 10 plug-and-play facilities, each covering 20–25 acres, to support startups and businesses.
Modern Amenities: The city will include 150-meter-wide connecting roads, cutting-edge office spaces, co-working hubs, residential complexes, and schools.
Flexible Land Parcels: Startups can access land parcels ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 sq. ft. through lease, sale, or equity-sharing models.
Expanding Bengaluru’s success across Karnataka
As part of its broader strategy to decentralise growth, the Karnataka government also plans to establish five Mini KWIN Cities across the state. Two of these cities have been proposed in Vijayapura and Hubballi-Dharwad. In September, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the Knowledge, Wellbeing, and Innovation (KWIN) City near Bengaluru. This ambitious project aims to create a parallel city to Bengaluru, offering equal opportunities across various sectors. KWIN City, located between Doddaspete and Doddaballapur, approximately 60 kilometres from Bengaluru, will span 2,000 acres. Strategically positioned along the Satellite Town Ring Road, KWIN City is designed to accommodate a variety of industries, housing developments, and innovation hubs, ensuring balanced growth in the region.
