Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has joined hands with SUN Mobility, a leading provider of electric vehicle energy solutions, to introduce battery-swapping facilities for electric vehicles within metro premises. The initiative aims to provide metro commuters with seamless last-mile connectivity and eco-friendly transportation options.
The battery-swapping stations are strategically placed in parking areas and auto stands near metro stations, ensuring easy access for commuters. These stations offer a sustainable solution for passengers commuting to and from metro trains. Over the past month, the stations have collectively facilitated an impressive 1,25,000 kilometres of travel, serving around 19,000 vehicles.
Each BMRCL station has supported an average of 2,800 vehicle trips per month. This includes approximately 2,300 trips by two-wheelers and 500 trips by three-wheelers. These numbers highlight the growing demand for efficient EV infrastructure in the city.
Expansion plans across metro lines
The initial deployment along the Green and Purple metro lines has seen significant success, with seven battery-swapping stations already operational. BMRCL plans to expand the initiative by launching 12 additional stations in the coming months, further strengthening last-mile connectivity for metro users.
Commitment to sustainable urban mobility
BMRCL's Managing Director, Maheshwar Rao M, emphasised the organisation's dedication to promoting sustainable urban transport. "Our collaboration with SUN Mobility enhances last-mile connectivity through efficient battery-swapping solutions, offering great value to EV users. Together, we aim to scale this initiative city-wide," he stated. This partnership underscores BMRCL's commitment to innovative solutions that enhance commuter convenience while reducing the city's carbon footprint.
