The Delhi government is preparing to introduce significant incentives for women to adopt electric two-wheelers in the second phase of its Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance electric vehicle adoption and promote gender inclusivity in sustainable transportation. Under the draft of Delhi EV Policy 2.0, women purchasing electric two-wheelers can avail themselves of a subsidy of ₹12,000 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of battery capacity, capped at ₹36,000 per vehicle. This benefit is limited to the first 10,000 eligible women holding a valid driving licence. The policy aims to encourage more women to participate in the transition to electric mobility.

Broader Objectives of the Policy

Beyond individual incentives, the Delhi EV Policy 2.0 aspires to achieve 95% electric vehicle penetration in the city by 2027. It also aims to generate approximately 20,000 jobs in the electric mobility sector. The policy encompasses incentives for various electric vehicles, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and commercial vehicles, to accelerate the shift towards sustainable transportation.

Infrastructure and Additional Incentives

To support the anticipated increase in electric vehicles, the policy proposes the installation of more public EV charging stations and mandates EV charging infrastructure in new buildings. Additionally, it offers scrapping incentives for owners to replace older internal combustion engine vehicles with electric ones, further promoting environmental sustainability. Delhi's EV Policy 2.0 represents a significant step towards a greener future, with a particular focus on empowering women through targeted subsidies. By combining financial incentives with infrastructure development, the policy aims to make electric mobility more accessible and inclusive.
