Lotus Wireless Technologies (LWT) India, in partnership with the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), has pioneered the development of India’s first commercial-scale Medium Voltage Solid-State Transformer (SST). This advanced technology is set to revolutionise electric vehicle (EV) charging, reducing charging times from hours to mere minutes. The SST technology is designed for demanding applications like megawatt-scale, medium-voltage, and superfast EV chargers. LWT recently showcased this groundbreaking innovation at their Autonagar, Aganampudi facility.
The demonstration coincided with the inauguration of LWT’s Power Electronics (PE) lab by Dr. Friederich Kupzog, Head of Energy at AIT, Vienna. Highlighting the achievement, Dr. Kupzog said, “This collaboration underscores the fusion of India’s robust engineering and manufacturing strengths with Austria’s cutting-edge innovation, paving the way for transformative energy solutions.” The event also featured notable figures, including Dr. Kaushik Basu, a power electronics expert from the Indian Institute of Science, and Binu S. Pillai, Director of R&D at LWT.
Reflecting on the milestone, Dr. Kaushik Basu remarked, “The development of medium-voltage solid-state transformer technology in India is a significant beginning. It illustrates the potential of global partnerships between academia and industry to foster indigenous advancements in high-tech fields.”
