Ola has clarified that ride fares are not determined based on the type of phone a customer uses. The statement follows allegations that users of Apple devices might be charged more for identical rides than those using Android phones. Ola and its global competitor Uber received notices from India's Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA). The action was taken at the direction of Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi after media reports and consumer complaints suggested potential pricing discrepancies favouring Android users.

Ola's Assurance of Uniform Pricing

In response, an Ola spokesperson reassured the public, stating, "We maintain a consistent pricing structure for all customers. There is no differentiation based on the operating system of a user's phone for the same ride." They further emphasised their commitment to transparency, confirming that the company had already communicated this clarification to the CCPA. "We are actively working with the authority to address and resolve any misunderstandings regarding this matter," the spokesperson added.
