Rapido, a leading mobility aggregator, is set to introduce its women-only bike taxi service, ‘Bike Pink,’ in Karnataka. The announcement was made by the company’s co-founder, Pavan Guntupalli, during the Global Investor Meet Karnataka 2025 on February 14. This move is expected to generate nearly 25,000 job opportunities for women in the region. This expansion follows the successful launch of ‘Bike Pink’ in Chennai in September 2024. The initiative has been well-received, providing safer and more accessible transportation for women while creating sustainable employment opportunities.

Support for Women Captains

To assist women facing financial difficulties, Rapido has pledged to provide 25 electric bikes in the initial phase. This initiative aims to facilitate accessible transportation options while enabling financial independence for women captains. Additionally, Rapido is collaborating with various NGOs to offer extensive training programs. These programs will equip women drivers with essential safety measures and driving skills, ensuring a secure and professional riding experience.

Expansion to Kolkata

Beyond Karnataka, Rapido has also announced plans to introduce its electric ‘Bike Pink’ taxis in Kolkata. This expansion aligns with the company’s broader vision of making urban transport safer and more inclusive for women across India.

Rapido’s Growth and Industry Trends

Founded in 2015 by Aravind Sanka, Pavan Guntupalli, and Rishikesh SR, Hyderabad-based Rapido has established itself as an affordable and efficient transport alternative in India’s congested cities. The company’s latest initiative reflects a growing industry trend toward inclusivity and safety, with mobility players increasingly investing in women-centric driver development programs and road safety training.

Competition in Women-Only Bike Taxi Services

Rapido is not alone in this space. In December 2024, ride-hailing giant Uber launched ‘Moto Women’ in Bengaluru, offering a similar women-only bike taxi service. This initiative also aims to enhance safety and convenience for female riders while providing flexible earning opportunities for women drivers.
