Kolkata residents can now purchase tickets for state-run buses using the 'Yatri Sathi' mobile application, announced State Transport Minister Snehasis Chakraborty. Initially, the service will be available on 12 specific routes connecting the airport, with plans for a gradual expansion to other routes.
Describing the initiative as a transformative step for public transport in the city, the minister highlighted that digital ticketing via Yatri Sathi would revolutionize the commuting experience. Commuters simply need to select their route, make payments through UPI, and receive a QR-code-enabled ticket. Conductors will verify these tickets using a specialized device. This move aims to enhance convenience for passengers by simplifying payments and encouraging a cashless, digital-first approach. "The system aligns with Kolkata's vision for smart mobility and digital adoption," Chakraborty said. Transport Secretary Saumitra Mohan noted that Kolkata now joins a select group of Indian cities using technology to modernize and improve public transportation systems.
