Uber is in advanced discussions with the Karnataka government to introduce its shuttle bus services in Bengaluru. The initiative is designed to provide a reliable and efficient alternative to private vehicles, aiming to alleviate the city’s notorious traffic congestion. The proposed service will primarily cater to Bengaluru’s bustling tech corridor, with buses running at intervals of 2-3 minutes along the busy Outer Ring Road (ORR). Commuters will have access to pre-booking options, along with fixed pick-up and drop-off points for added convenience.

Success in other cities

This move comes after Uber’s successful implementation of similar shuttle services in Kolkata and Delhi. Buoyed by the positive response in these cities, the company is now eager to replicate its success in Bengaluru, often referred to as India’s "Silicon City." Uber plans to roll out approximately 200 air-conditioned buses across Bengaluru. The focus will be on routes with the highest commuter demand, especially areas near tech parks. The buses aim to provide a comfortable and convenient travel option for thousands of daily commuters.

Optimism from Uber leadership

Abhishek Padhye, Uber’s Head of Regional Business Operations for India and South Asia, expressed confidence in the initiative. He stated, “The shuttle bus service is performing well in Kolkata and Delhi. We are optimistic about receiving approval to operate in Bengaluru soon, helping to ease the city’s traffic congestion.”
