Sitharaman Announces Centre of Excellence in AI for an outlay of Rs 500 Crores under Budget 2025-26
The government of India plans to set up the Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence for an outlay of Rs 500 crores.

The finance minister of India, in the Budget 2025-26 speech, has announced that the government of India plans to set up a Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence for an outlay of Rs 500 crores. This Centre of Excellence is poised to power India's AI race through empowering its workforce with significant AI-based advancements.

This is coupled with an earlier announcement by Ashwini Vaishnav, India’s IT minister, to set–up India's own foundational AI model aimed at enhancing India’s position in the AI space. It is in alignment with what the Economic Survey 2024-25 mentioned about establishing institutes to train and skill the Indian workforce empowering them, with AI capabilities. It aims to power a future of workspaces where humans and machines join hands to present immense opportunities and possibilities. 

AI Centre of Excellence: Countering Challenges 


This aims to address the prevalent challenges of the AI space faced by developers and users. First, practicality and reliability second, significant infrastructure is required for scaling AI, and lastly, the balance between quality and efficiency.

As the AI space stands at an inflection point, India is poised to lead the baton in giving the world the best solution suited to proper and make economies more valuable than ever.
