SATRC elects Mr. Anil Kumar Lahoti, chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), unanimously as the chairman of the South Asian Telecommunications’ Regulators Council (SATRC) on the outskirts of the 25th Meeting of the SATRC in India on Monday.

The announcement by TRAI read, “ Congratulations to Mr. Anil Kumar Lahoti, Chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), on his unanimous election as the new Chair of SATRC. We look forward to his leadership in advancing regional telecommunications.”

Current Scenario
Currently, Mr Lahoti serves as the vice-chair of the SATRC while the chair position is held by Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed, Chairman of Bangladesh Telecom Regulatory Council (BTRC).
India is currently hosting the 25th meeting of the SATRC with participation received from the regulators of Afghanistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Iran, Nepal, and Pakistan. It will be held from 11 November to 13 November 2024. It was inaugurated by India’s Telecom Minister Mr. Jyotiraditya M. Scindia.
Aftermaths
“It is important that Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) policies are increasingly related to development objectives,” Mr. Lahoti said in remarks after being voted chair.
