A report by a Mumbai-based talent solutions company NLB Services has claimed that the Indian Semiconductor Industry is poised to generate nearly 10 Lakh jobs in the Indian Economy.

The Claims

NLB Services has claimed in its report that amid increasing investments and the inclination of India toward semiconductor fab and semiconductor-based industries, the Indian economy is all set to generate nearly 10 lakh jobs in the Indian Economy.

According to the report, this demand is expected to span multiple categories, including an estimated 300,000 jobs in semiconductor chip fabrication, approximately 200,000 positions in ATMP (Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging), and additional roles in areas such as chip design, software development, system circuits, and supply chain management for manufacturing.

Quality of Workforce

The report also offers predictions and a possible rise in demand for skilled workers to suit the jobs of engineers, operators, technicians, and specialists.  However, the major profiles would fall under quality control, Procurement & Material Engineering.

It gains importance as India charts its way to capitalize on the semiconductor boom anticipated to arrive in India very soon. This cautions the industry regarding the proper availability and training of the talent pool.

Lacking

The report underlined that the industry grapples with a talent deficit that needs to be thought out very seriously. This comes amid an increasing push for multiplying manufacturing in India. This necessitates the industry to think about skill development programs to equip the workforce with the required talent.

"To reach the target of having 1 million skilled employees by 2026 for India to become the semiconductor hub, India will need to upskill 5,00,000 talents every year," NLB Services CEO Sachin Alug said.

Semiconductor Buzz

As the global semiconductor fabrication material market stands at $69 Billion, with projections soaring to  $104.6 billion by 2030, India also seems to carve out a space for itself. This means setting up fab units and getting big companies into the game.

Recent reports of Nvidia & Government of India regarding conceptualizing an indigenous Chip is one such buzz. Others include the UP government’s greenlight to HCL & Tarq’s proposal to set up fab units in Noida

Leading players from the private sector, including CG Power, Kaynes, and Adani, are taking initiatives to increase their presence in this field. Meanwhile, U.S.-based Micron Technology has also received Cabinet approval for a project in Gujarat.
