According to the latest published findings of Techarc’s India Connected Consumer Report, in 2025, India is all set to adopt emerging automotive technologies, including M2M, 5G Connectivity, and Advanced AI technologies in Cars.

Technological Leap

The report claims that the Indian automotive sector will take a technological leap and adopt the latest 5G connectivity technology in the connected cars segment, leaving behind 4G and its associated innovations. This brings an important metric for the manufacturers and brands dealing in the segment to focus on and prioritize more the 5G segment and features rather than focusing on 4G.

Quality over Quantity

22% of the respondents showed an inclination towards optimizing their smart devices portfolio. The report remarks that Indian customers are inkling towards spending more to enrich their connectivity experience rather than spending on too many devices. Consumers are increasingly diverting their attention and financial resources towards improving the value proposition and not accumulating just devices.

This paves the way for the sector to offer consumers more and more enriched services and bring new and innovative services to please their consumers and set afoot for the industry. This charts the way for the scope of development that the automotive sector needs to exhibit to gain customer attention and reliability.

Awareness regarding Connected Cars

Among all the segments surveyed, the Connected Cars segment has received the highest number of awareness metrics. 55% of the respondents claim that they have come across news or information about smart/connected cars in recent times.

Innovations En-route

As per the report, India’s automotive sector is all set to receive exciting new features in cars by 2025.  It includes 5G M2M connectivity, on-device GenAI, cloud connectivity, In-vehicle computing, and artificial intelligence (GenAI), along with cloud applications that will be the most awaited features enabling the drivers to meet international standards and also keep real-time track of data and processing.

This pictures an exciting turn for the automobile industry in India as consumers are all set to receive the most exciting and first-of-its-kind features.

Pricing

Such vehicles would be priced at Rs 20 lakhs and above featuring these technologies as a standard. This puts a tag of luxury for the segment as this price range in India generally ropes in luxury cars with best-in-class features.
"So far, such features were seen as luxury or high-end experiences. But starting 2025, many of these will become mainstream for cars in India," Techarc AutoTech Analyst Sadat Ahanger said.

Possible Applications

Some innovative benefits to be experienced by the consumers would include using communication apps while driving, OTT apps, music streaming, podcasts, online shopping, vehicle maintenance, and servicing.

Brands

Approximately 21% of respondents identified MG Motors as the leader in connected cars in India, with Kia Motors following closely at 18% and Tata Motors at 15%, the survey revealed. However, Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki also ranked among the top five brands in this segment.

Prospects

The report stated that with 22 automobile manufacturers producing nearly 5 million passenger vehicles annually, India is set to emerge as a leader in the global 5G M2M market in the coming years.
