Addverb Technologies Ltd., a Noida-based company backed by Asia’s richest person, Mukesh Ambani, is gearing up to launch its first humanoid robot in 2025. The development marks Ambani’s strategic entry into the growing global humanoid robotics space, currently dominated by players like Elon Musk’s Tesla, Boston Dynamics, Agility Robotics, Figure AI, and several Chinese tech firms.
According to a Bloomberg report, Addverb's humanoid robots will cater to industries such as fashion, retail, and energy. While Sangeet Kumar, CEO, did not reveal specific capabilities or pricing details, he expressed confidence in the robots' ability to perform tasks relevant to these sectors, enhancing operational efficiency and addressing repetitive, time-consuming processes. This launch positions Addverb as a significant competitor against U.S., European, and Chinese robotics giants.
Sangeet Kumar acknowledged the financial challenges of building humanoid robots, emphasizing that substantial investments are necessary to innovate and manufacture at scale. Despite this, he expressed optimism about Addverb’s competitive edge, citing its readiness to rival global companies, even in the face of China’s government-subsidized robotics industry. “It requires huge money to build humanoids,” Kumar stated.
The move comes at a time when other global companies are pushing advancements in humanoid robotics. Tesla recently unveiled its Tesla Optimus humanoid robot and Robotaxis at the "We, Robot" event. Elon Musk announced that the Optimus robots are expected to cost around $20,000 to $25,000 and predicted they would become commonplace by 2040, serving various industries and personal needs.
Apart from Addverb, Mukesh Ambani has also backed other AI-driven initiatives, including Hanooman AI, launched earlier this year by BharatGPT. These investments signal Reliance’s growing interest in cutting-edge technology sectors like AI and robotics. The global market for humanoid robots is expanding rapidly, with applications spanning industrial automation, retail, logistics, healthcare, and beyond. Addverb's entry into this domain showcases India’s ambitions to establish itself as a significant player in the global robotics ecosystem.
