At the 32nd edition of Convergence India Expo at Bharat Mandapam, Aman Gupta, CEO and co-founder of boAT, engaged in a conversation with Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman of ICEA. During their discussion, Gupta praised India's growing enthusiasm for startups and entrepreneurship.

He lauds the young minds of India who are currently in college and want to become entrepreneurs. He says, “Today’s India is dreaming big,” as he quantifies India’s transformational shift towards start-ups and homegrown brands. The two personalities exchanged views on various topics, ranging from boAt’s success to the traits of a successful entrepreneur, and finally, how Indian brands can best position themselves in the market.

He notes that India has prioritized celebrating Startup Day to bolster startups and new businesses. This shows our priority interest in business and wealth creation. “Earlier businesses were looked at with negative connotations,” he says, reflecting on his early years in the startup landscape. Referring to the transformational shift in India’s business landscape, he adds that today, young Indian entrepreneurs need not look any further for inspiration and support but in their nation. The entrepreneurs of his generation didn’t have this accessibility and opportunity. Earlier, the entrepreneurs had to turn to prominent foreign figures like Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and others for support and inspiration.

Going further, he adds, “Today’s India is an entrepreneurial India,” hinting at the increasing inclination of entrepreneurial culture in India’s professional space. This has enabled India to generate more jobs and empower its economy through indigenous wealth creation and investment. The culture of startups and entrepreneurial mindset is currently following a growth trajectory in India. Showcasing the economic potential of the Indian business and young entrepreneurs.

India accounts for 159,000 recognized startups, making it the third largest in the world. Out of these, more than 100 have turned unicorns. It is expected to grow with a 10-12 percent YoY growth, showcasing huge potential for growth in the coming times. Towards the end of his fireside chat, Aman Gupta remarks, “Indian brands need not be compulsorily affordable; Indian customers today prefer the aspirational approach.”
