Bhashini, India’s language translation app, reaches 100 million monthly inferences with over 7 lakh downloads
More than 50 stakeholders, including key government entities such as NPCI, RBIH, MoRD, Lok Sabha, and Rajya Sabha, along with private sector partners, are actively collaborating with Bhashini.

According to the year-end report published recently by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Bhashini has reached the milestone of & lakh users, along with surpassing the 100 million monthly inferences threshold.  The app currently hosts over 300 AI language models furthering the development of state-of-the-art solutions in the AI language technology space. 

It currently supports 17 Indian languages making it easier for people of different languages to collaborate and work as one. 

Bhashini 

Bhashini, an initiative by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology under the "National Language Translation Mission," is a government project designed to bridge India's linguistic diversity. Its goal is to empower citizens by enabling content translation across various Indian languages, fostering effective communication among speakers of different languages, and reducing language barriers across the country.

Big stakeholders in the journey 

More than 50 stakeholders, including key government entities such as NPCI, RBIH, MoRD, Lok Sabha, and Rajya Sabha, along with private sector partners, are actively collaborating with Bhashini. This presents a significant stage in its journey as it maneuvers its way through the cut-throat competitive arena of digital avenues for translation, pitching itself before some major tech giants.

An indigeneus solution 

Apart from all its benefits, it is an indigenous solution that offers to transcend language barriers, ensuring that every citizen can effortlessly access digital services in their language. Launched by the Honourable PM in July 2022, it aims to provide technology translation services in 22 scheduled Indian languages.17 Indian languages are supported.

Award and recognitions 

Bhashini's contributions have been recognized across various forums, showcasing leadership in AI, digital transformation, and inclusivity. The awards and recognitions include: the Digital Trailblazer Award by Express Computer for outstanding contributions to the AI ecosystem in India, the Elets Education Innovation Award for providing accessible & inclusive education through AI, etc among others.
