According to the data presented by the MoS Communication in the parliament, the 4G mobile network in India has reached a 97 percent uptick. It means out of 6,44,131 villages in the country 98 percent which is 6,22,840 have been covered with Mobile Connectivity as of 30th September, 2024.
While the mobile network coverage has reached 97 percent, 4G coverage stands at 95.5 percent which is 6,14,564 villages out of a total of 6,44,131 villages.
Tribal areas
Under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) Mission, led by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, 4,543 habitations of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) were identified as lacking mobile connectivity. Out of these, 1,136 habitations have now been successfully brought under mobile network coverage.

Government’s efforts
The government is actively implementing various schemes and projects under the Digital Bharat Nidhi initiative to enhance telecom connectivity by installing mobile towers in rural, remote, and hilly regions across the country, including areas inhabited by Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
As of October 31, 2024, a total of 1,018 mobile towers have been sanctioned under Digital Bharat Nidhi-funded projects to provide 4G coverage to PVTG habitations, with an estimated expenditure of ₹1,014 crore.
