As Telcos Release Coverage Maps, You Can Finally Gain Clarity and Control
The maps published on the sites have been color-coded to identify the network type and also allow for enabling GPS or search location to check the network status in a specific area.

Following the direction of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Indian telcos, namely Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, have published the coverage maps on their websites coupled with the requisite filters. Through this, the regulatory body aims to instill a sense of transparency and empowerment among mobile phone users.

It is in accordance with the regulations issued by TRAI dated 22nd November 2024. The regulations mandate that “every service provider providing access service (wireless) shall publish on its website the service-wise geospatial coverage maps in such a manner and format as may be directed by the Authority from time to time for the geographical areas where wireless voice or wireless broadband service is available for subscription by consumers.”

Easy Access

To enable easy access, the link to these geospatial maps has also been published on the TRAI website. This easy access would enable the mobile phone user to hold the telcos accountable and responsible for the quality of services they provide.

This would enable the mobile subscribers to share their feedback or report any major discrepancy in coverage representation with their service provider through the user feedback feature available on coverage maps.

Color Coding

The newly launched coverage maps feature an intuitive design and a standardized color scheme for easy navigation. Users can view network coverage by specific technologies—such as 2G, 3G, 4G, or 5G—offered by individual telecom service providers in their area of interest. The platform allows users to search by location or enable GPS to center the map on their current position. A toggle or selection button lets users switch between different network technologies with ease.

Planning Made Easier

Mobile network coverage maps serve not only subscribers but also offer a nationwide view of telecom coverage, making them valuable for stakeholders involved in planning and implementing digital initiatives. Additionally, these maps can support data-driven assessments to inform regulatory or policy interventions where needed.
