Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has successfully installed a 4G tower deep into the Thar desserts at the Jawahar Post. In its ongoing efforts to saturate the stretches and corners of India, the 4G footprints of BSNL have reached the Thar Desert paving the way for a more connected India in the coming times, specifically beneficial for the army.

As a matter of trial, Sh. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary-Telecom interacted with the BSF officials posted at border outposts in the desert areas. While the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) tweeted about it as:

BSNL 4G: Connectivity Boon For Soldiers

It's a big achievement for BSNL being a PSU to create this milestone enabling the soldiers to remain more connected with their families than ever. This would also ensure a consistent quality of service through the 4G footprints deep in the deserts. It is indeed a big moment for the public telco that it can achieve big strides in the deployment of connectivity infrastructure.

BSNL 4G: Previous Achievements

BSNL had successfully deployed the 4G connectivity infrastructure at Chhiyalekh adjacent to the China border of Vyas Valley and the last post Nabhidang situated at an altitude of 14,500 feet, back in the mid-December of 2024.  Extending 4G access to such high-altitude and strategic areas ensures that all citizens, regardless of their location, have equal opportunities for information and communication.

India’s Push for Connectivity

Back in mid-December 2024 only, Bharti Airtel, in partnership with the Indian Army, had brought connectivity to villages in the Kupwara, Baramulla, and Bandipore districts along the Line of Control in North Kashmir. Around 15 mobile towers have been installed in the region to ensure proper network connectivity for the people in the region.
