The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) under the government of India has awarded AI Touch LLP a grant under the DoT’s flagship Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) scheme. The grant will be used to develop components for disaggregated 5G RAN with RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC), Service Management and Orchestration (SMO), and Network Data Analytics Function (NDAF) modules.

In a bid to advance India’s pace in 5G expansion, the technology would facilitate intelligent and automated control of RAN and Core nodes through AI/ML-based applications and closed-loop automation.

Utility of modules

All the three modules namely, RIC, SMO & NDAF will play pivotal roles in making the proposed technology one of a kind. Specifically, RIC will be responsible for AI/ML-driven network optimization thereby, efficiently managing user experience during congestion scenarios, while SMOs will be dynamically shifting resources, such as bandwidth and processing power, to manage demand seamlessly in scenarios of high traffic in one area.

Finally, NWDAF analyzes real-time traffic data from the 5G Radio Access Network (RAN), identifying areas and time in terms of demand to inform the activeness, inactiveness, allocation of more resources or even rerouting to combat congestion.

Efficient network system

All these efforts and technology aim to bring about an efficiency in India’s 5G network coverage hence, enhancing the quality of the services that the end-consumers receive. Contributing to the operational efficiency of 5G networks across India will enhance the customer experience across networks.

Conformity with standards

Speaking at the contract signing ceremony, Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO, of C-DOT, stated, “C-DOT, as the implementation partner, will ensure that the project adheres to the highest standards of technological development. By facilitating collaboration between industry leaders like AI Touch, we are enabling the creation of indigenous solutions that will strengthen India’s telecom ecosystem.”

Automation

Amit Gupta, Partner at AI Touch, said, “At AI Touch, our focus is on leveraging AI and ML to create advanced analytics and intelligent models. In this project, we are leading the development of predictive capabilities and automation frameworks within RIC and NWDAF, ensuring the platform is equipped to handle complex network challenges with accuracy.”
