Dr. Chandrshekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State (MoS)-Telecom, notified a breakthrough to be undertaken in the National Broadband Mission 2.0 that will kick in from April 01, 2025. The Mission aims to tackle broadband connectivity challenges in remote and difficult areas through various modern initiatives. This time the DoT plans to collaborate with the Ministry of Power (MoP), to use Optical Ground Wire (OGW) along with commissioning satellite-based broadband connectivity to enable network connectivity for you irrespective of where you stay either hills or borders.
The department is trying to leverage the new technologies either OGW or Satelite in its network expansion goals allowing it to efficiently cater to you with much-needed network connectivity. This time, the department is pursuing methods equipped with state-of-the-art and modern technologies for expanding network connectivity to remote areas through the National Broadband Mission 2.0.

OGW: What’s The Innovation?
The Optical Ground Wire (OGW) is a variety of cables that combine the functions of grounding and communications in overhead power lines. It has optical fibers that can be used for telecommunications. This would make it seamless, easy, and above all efficient for the department to make network connectivity reach the hilly and tough terrain areas of the nation.

Satellite Broadband: Why is it important?
As Indian telcos, namely Jio and Airtel are going all-out with their satellite-based internet trials, it becomes indispensable for the government of India to take note of the same. Also, being one of the latest technologies to date for seamless and optimum network connectivity it makes the best case in the department’s quest for making network connectivity reach the ends and corners of the nation with state-of-the-art and modern methods and equipment.
