Stricter adherence to guidelines leads to a 20% decline in spam call complaints
The data regarding complaints against spam calls shows a successive decline from 1,89,419 in August 2024 to 1,51,497 in October 2024

Recent figures released by the Ministry of Communications in the parliament show a decline in the complaints received against unregistered telemarketers. The complaints decreased from 1,89,419 in August 2024 to 1,51,497 in October 2024 showing a decline of around 20 percent. In the very same continuance, 1150 entities/individuals have been blacklisted and 18.8 lakhs telecom resources have been disconnected. 

This sets a significant milestone in setting up a safe and secure telecom ecosystem for the end users, which is free of spam and prioritizes the consumers. 

Successive decline 

The data regarding complaints against spam calls shows a successive decline. It declined from  1,89,419 in August 2024 to 1,63,167 in September 2024 showing a decline of 13 percent. It further declined to 1,51,497 in October 2024, showing a cumulative decline of around 20 percent. 

Continuous efforts 

The private telcos as well as the TRAI have been making constant efforts to counter the mance of Spam calls and make the Indian telecoms space much safer and convenient for the end user.

DoT had suspended the licenses of 2 telemarketing entities- V-con Intelligent Security and OneXtel Media as they were found sending 55.5 fraudulent SMSes to telephone users since Jan 2024.  These actions are part of a bigger crackdown en-route to tackle the issue of rising Spam calls. 

Safe and secure telecom space 

As part of TRAI's mission to reduce spam, over 800 entities and individuals have been blacklisted, and more than 1.8 million mobile numbers and telecom resources have been disconnected. This represents a significant step in cleaning up the system from unwanted commercial calls.

Through this initiative, TRAI aims to address the issue of spam and create a safer telecom environment. The regulator has implemented various measures to prevent the misuse of headers and content templates, ensuring consumer safety. Just a month back, TRAI had also called on telecom companies to cut ties with unregistered telemarketers.
