As India plans to lead the race in 6G, C-DoT is all set to take the lead with the development of cutting-edge technology aimed at enhancing network connectivity and 6G expansion in India. Now, C-DoT has forged a collaboration with IIT Bombay to develop an Optical Transceiver Chipset (OTC) for High-bandwidth 6G wireless links. This technology aims to enhance India’s position in Last-mile network connectivity across the regions that have low network reach like mountains, terrains, rural areas, etc.

The concerned technology will be able to provide seamless and uninterrupted high-bandwidth communication links to remote areas via satellite. It will be highly helpful in situations and scenarios where the deployment / laying out of optical fibers is challenging. The agreement has been signed under the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF).

Why is C-DoT developing this?

As of now, nearly 36,000 villages in India remain unconnected with the 4G network. Additionally, the transition to 6G would need intensive deployment of high-speed Optical Fibres to support the transition and further its successful use across the length and breadth of India.

Additionally, as the 6 services arrive the telcos would be supposed to equip the length and breadth of the nation with intensive transmission infrastructure. In that case, the chipset owing to its wireless mechanism will be able to complement the available on-ground infrastructure coupled with satellite-based internet connectivity to ensure smooth and uninterrupted 6G network connectivity across the nation without the imitations of location or terrain.
